Where Does Your Color Palette Come From?

When you start to decorate your home the color palette is usually started with one of the colors within your couch, chair, area rug or bedspread. Sometimes, your color palette is started from something that is special to you, like a piece of artwork. When I went to my client Helen's house in Marietta for an interior design and paint color consultation one of the first things she showed me was a special piece of artwork that she absolutely loves. We decided to decorate Helen's media room with this piece of art in mind. I designed a decorating plan for furniture, wood flooring, window treatments, a special bookcase and a great entertainment system. The plan also includes a separate section for her child's play area. The multitude of colors within this painting are vibrant and beautiful and are a perfect beginning for Helen's decorating plan. We chose her paint color for her walls from one of the colors within this painting. The color I chose was perfect for Helen because she loves bright paint colors on her walls. We replaced the carpet with a laminate flooring because it is a high traffic area and it is easier to keep clean. The colors in the fabric of the window treatments color coordinate with the oil painting.
This entire room was inspired by this oil painting that is loved by Helen and her family! As an Interior Designer in Cobb County, I can design a special room for you too that reflects you and your families personality and needs. If you have any questions please contact me.

The color palette and Contemporary decorating style came from this oil painting.

Before the design plan was implemented.

The paint color was chosen from Helen's oil painting.

The Window Treatments are installed and we are waiting for the furniture and other accessories to complete this "NEW" room!

Are You Having A Party?

If you are planning to have the party or a wedding at your house then you may need a quick "re-design" for your home. Regardless if your house is small or very large, As an Interior Designer in Atlanta I can come in and make a difference on the look and the feel of your home for this event! Within a few hours to a few days I can transform your house. As an Interior Designer I have carpet cleaners, maid service and organizers available to assist me. I will use your furniture, pictures, accessories and other household items to preform your re-design. It is a possibility that I will need to go shopping for a few items that will help to complete this transformation.
These are examples of before and after pictures of my client Ramona's house that I redesigned for a wedding! She wanted updated window treatments. We only had a few days to complete this project so we went shopping at JCPenny's to purchase curtains. She purchased ready-made curtains and I made them to appear like custom made window treatments! The drapes she chose helped to add the "WOW" factor to her room. We went to different sections of the house to borrow pictures to hang in the living room. I moved furniture around to give the living room a new updated look.

Mold in Your Bathroom Can be Dangerous

Bathrooms are getting classier and classier with every decade that passes by. Many people are choosing to re-do their bathrooms in their homes to provide an updated look. Some of my clients are choosing to totally upgrade their bathrooms. Once the flooring is removed many times they find mold. Mold is a surprise you do not want to find in your bathroom!

Mauro Pradella who is my talented Handyman and Home Fix-It Specialist was tearing out all of the old surround areas of the shower, removing the flooring and updating the plumbing so that the new fixtures and new granite top cabinet could fit properly. As he was removing the flooring he found mold. He brought the mold to our attention, took steps to fix it and stopped it from ever happening again. My client Adela and I worked together and produced a plan for an updated design for her son's bathroom. Once we decided exactly what updated bathroom design she would like to have we called in Mauro to begin the next step! His expertise was amazing!

The bathroom is looking great! The tile Adela and I chose was installed. The cabinet with the granite counter top is in place and is working perfectly! There is much more to tell you about this updated bathroom. The finished product will be coming soon for you to see!

Wasted Space Under Your Staircase

Do you have wasted space under your staircase? If so, there are a few options to utilize this space! One example is to open this area up, install a door and create a closet. Another great option is to create your own personal reading area. You might have a large amount of books or collectables but not know where to put them! As an Interior Designer in Atlanta, I have contacts that can create bookcases to utilize your space under the staircase while showing off your books and collectables!

Decorate with Jan Facebook Page

As an Interior Designer in Atlanta, I could see that my client needed a "WOW" factor for her first impression as you walk into her living room. My client and I discussed many options for window treatments and art work that would give her the splash
of color that she needed. We discussed a style of window treatment that would be perfect to go with the atmosphere and decorating style she was trying to achieve. We had another print framed to match her existing picture over her fireplace. The green color on the matting was chosen from the green within her color palette.

The perfect high-end window treatment for her room!
This room looks great! Now she needs a large area rug. When you walk into her living room you will see that "WOW" factor she needed to complete her room!

Dorm Room Competition Class

Those students were awesome! I enjoyed teaching the "Dorm Decorating and Organizing" Class at Burnt Hickory Church last night. There was a great turn out of students and their parents ready to learn about their room.

When this picture was taken at the beginning of class there was a small turn out. With in 15 minutes after I started my class the room was totally full! I loved it! it was great to see so many students ready to learn how to decorate their dorm rooms. Every college has dorm room competitions. Some of the categories to win this competition are most original, properly color coordinated and best use of space.

I gave them many decorating tips and privacy tip ideas. I was so excited to be able to share an hour and a half worth of dorm room tips to these students. Such as, how to make a dust ruffle that has pockets in it for holding private items or even a flash light. As you know, you are never allowed to use nails to hang items on the walls. So, as an Interior Designer in Atlanta I had many examples of how to hang pictures, shelves or home made craft pictures with monograms, pet pictures, family and boyfriend pictures on the walls.

I wonder how many of these students are going to win their dorm room competition after taking my class!
